Ismo (Isosorbide-5-Mononitrate)
>> Drug Uses:
Ismo is applied for preventing angina (chest pain) caused by heart disease.
>> How Taken:
Take Ismo as prescribed by your physician. Accept Ismo orally with or without food.
This drug should be taken two times a day, with the doses 7 hours apart. The first dose should preferably be accepted in the morning upon waking up, unless prescribed otherwise by your physician.
Do not suddenly stop using Ismo. You may have an extended risk of adverse reactions (eg, angina attacks). If you need to stop Ismo or add a new drug, your physician will gradually lower your dose.
>> Drug Class and Mechanism Ismo:
Ismo is a nitrate vasodilator. It widens the blood vessels in the body. This diminishes the workload of the heart and helps to relieve pain in chest.
>> Missed Dose:
In case of missing a dose of Ismo, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
>> Storage:
Keep Ismo at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Keep away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Do not store Ismo within close range of children and pets.
>> Possible Adverse Reactions:
Communicate with your physician if any of these most common adverse reactions persist or become bothersome: dizziness; headache; nausea.
Look for medical attention right away if any of these severe adverse reactions appear:
severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); changes in vision; fainting; numbness of an arm or leg; severe stomach pain; sharp or crushing chest pain; sudden leg pain; sudden, severe headache; sudden shortness of breath; vomiting.

Ismo should be accepted only by the patient for whom it is directed. Do not share it with other people. Contact with your physician if your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse.
