Generic Tramadol pills is an anesthetic. It works by acting on pain-associated chemicals and receptors in the body. Tramadol is used for the treatment of moderate and moderately severe pain. Tramadol may also be appointed for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
>> Important Information:
There have been reports about a rare adverse reaction of treatment with tramadol called seizures. If you take more than the prescribed dose, have a history of seizures or epilepsy, have head trauma, have a metabolic disease, have an infection of central nervous system, have a dependence on alcohol or drug, or take certain drugs the risk of seizures may be extended. If you have any factors of risk you must contact your doctor.

There have been reports about a rare adverse reaction of treatment with tramadol called seizures. The risk of seizures may be promoted in patients who have any of the conditions or are accepting any of the drugs listed below. Before taking tramadol contact your doctor if you:
- have a history of seizures or epilepsy;
- have a head injury;
- have a metabolic disease;
- have an infection of central nervous system;
- have a dependence on alcohol or drug;
- are using a tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Tofranil), clomipramine (Anafranil), and others;
- are accepting a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate);
- are using psychiatric drugs such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin), haloperidol (Haldol), loxapine (Loxitane), mesoridazine (Serentil), perphenazine (Trilafon), thioridazine (Mellaril), thiothixene (Navane), and others;
- are accepting a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) such as fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), or citalopram (Celexa);
- are taking a narcotic anesthetic such as codeine, fentanyl (Duragesic), hydromorphone (Dilaudid), meperidine (Demerol), hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lorcet, Lortab, others), morphine (MS Contin, MSIR, RMS, Roxanol, others), oxycodone (Roxicodone, Percocet, Percodan, others), propoxyphene (Darvon, Darvocet, others), and others;
- are using promethazine (Phenergan) or prochlorperazine (Compazine);
- are using sibutramine (Meridia);
- are using bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban); or
- are accepting cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril).
Before using tramadol, tell your physician if you have:
- disease of kidney;
- disease of liver ; or
- a history of alcohol or drug dependence.
If you have any of the conditions listed above you may not be able to accept tramadol, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. Tramadol is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is unknown whether it will be harmful to an unborn baby. In case of pregnancy do not use this drug without first talking to your doctor. It is also unknown whether tramadol percolates into breast milk. Tramadol shouldn't be taken by breast-feeding women without first talking to your physician. If you are over 75 years old, the adverse reactions from tramadol may appear frequently. The maximum daily dose of tramadol for people of this age group is 300 mg. Tramadol is not approved by the FDA for usage by children younger than 16 years of age.
>> Dosage and Administration:
Take tramadol exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Generic Tramadol pills can be taken with or without food. Side effects from treatment with tramadol may be decreased by a slow increase in dose, as directed by your doctor. The maximum dose of tramadol for an average healthy adult is 100 mg per dose, every 4 to 6 hours, up to 400 mg per day. People over 75 years of age should not take more than 300 mg per day. >> Possible Side Effects:
If you experience any of the following serious adverse reactions, stop accepting tramadol and seek emergency medical attention or communicate your doctor immediately:
- an allergic reaction (difficulty in breathing; oedema of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); or
- seizures.
Other, less serious adverse reactions may be more likely to occur. Continue to take tramadol and contact your doctor if you experience
- dizziness, drowsiness, or headache;
- nervousness, tremor, or anxiety;
- nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea; or
- itching, dry mouth, or sweating.
Tramadol is habit forming. Physical and/ or psychological dependence can appear, and withdrawal reactions are possible if the medication is stopped suddenly after prolonged or high-dose treatment. Some adverse reactions can also appear (not from this list). Connect your physician in case of any adverse reaction that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
>> Miss a Dose Tramadol:
Since tramadol is used an as-needed basis, missing a dose is usually not a problem. Accept the dose as soon as you remember, and do not apply another dose for the amount of time prescribed by your doctor. Do not take a double dose of this drug.
>> Overdose:
Look for emergency medical attention. Symptoms of a tramadol overdose include difficulty breathing; shallow, weak breathing; and seizures.
>> Drug Interaction:
Tramadol may promote the risk of seizures especially in patients who have epilepsy or another seizure disorder. Also, tramadol may extend the risk of seizures in case of taking any of the following medicines:
- a tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Tofranil), clomipramine (Anafranil), and others;

If you are taking any of the drugs listed above you should't accept tramadol without first talking to your physician. Before using tramadol, tell your doctor if you are accepting any of the following drugs:
- carbamazepine (Tegretol);
- quinidine (Quinaglute Dura-Tabs, Cardioquin, Quinora, others);
- warfarin (Coumadin); or
- digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps).
If you are using any of the drugs listed you may not be able to accept tramadol, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. Tramadol may promote the effects of other medicines that cause drowsiness, including antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives (used to treat insomnia), other anesthetic, anxiety medicines, and muscle relaxants. Tell your physician about all drugs that you are applying, and do not use any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs, including herbal products, without first talking to your physician during treatment with tramadol.
